tonight was a good night, made it to sca fight practice again. picked up a log of good tips on things to work on.

the big thing is utilizing the extension of my body, the sword. i’ve got good speed to get my hand where i want it. the problem is focusing that energy an extra 2-3ft. though the sword. all in all i think i did pretty good. still have a long way to go, but everyone starting out does.

now for a couple pics. acquired some nice bruises to show for my efforts.

left: a ‘tap’ i received from mr. mike.the armor i was wearing didn’t have an shoulders and well, i paid the price. while we squared off mike reached out and quite literally tapped my shoulder and i called it good. puzzled he looked at me and asked, “really?” after explaining the lack of armor under my sweatshirt he understood. (note: calling a shot ‘light’ translates to “hit me harder”)

right: armor bites. this happens when you put on armor that doesn’t fit quite right. pinches that occurs when you bend are aptly named armor bites. these were from an arm piece designed for a longer bone structure. it kept sliding down, thankfully i wasn’t actually fighting during this, only throwing practice shots. i decided to swap out the piece when i found myself not wanting to bring my arm back after throwing a shot

i’m sure there will be much more to come in the future.

earlier this week google.com release Google Chrome (BETA) for Windows. (Note: beta? really guys? you could get away with calling it an opensource STABLE release) They (google) says they’ve got a mac and linux version in the works, but those platforms are always second (sometimes third, forth or Sir Fiddle Not Appearing on this platform) fiddle in googles eyes. even for as much as they seem to be in favor of opensource.

I really wouldn’t be surprised if instead of working on their own linux/mac builds, they were really working with the webkit/safari and konqueror teams to have them implement their v8 and tab handling code. as all of these project revolve around webkit, i don’t see this being too far fetched.

I’ve played around with google chrome at work, being that i’m a mac user at home. so far, i’m impressed. the tab handling is superb and each tab having its own process helps keep the browser nice and fast. the built in task manager has also been a boon, letting me know which pages are using the most memory/process/net traffic at any given moment. my only gripes are the lack of java support. javascript, flash, shockwave, all work well, but java is necessary for some sites at work and for some schools online courses. the other is the bookmark handling. I shouldn’t have imported all of my bookmarks in at once as i used firefox’s tags instead of actual folders for organization. so now i’ve got a bunch of unorganized bookmarks and have to use googles built in search to see if i’m pulling up the right one.

googles comic for the introduction of google chrome

i do recommend giving google chrome a shot. all it all, its pretty good.

this past weekend was huntersmoon. a local 3-night sca event involving small skirmishes, practices, and ballista testing. its usually a low-scale event with one big dinner with some workshops. nothing too major.

inevitably during one of these camping events, one finds ones self short of some supply. (paper towels, food, drink, alcohol, etc…) and one must venture out into the world of the mundane to procure such items. usually one does not change out of garb, but on can if one so chooses. this lends itself to some interesting stories involving locals who don’t know about the event going on.

saturday evening i was sent out to get firewood. usually stewert’s has bags of the stuff outside their shops but no one did, so i decided to go ask…

clerk: (young high school kid, looking a little nervous at my getup) can i help you?

me: yeah, got any firewood?

clerk: (he looks though the bay windows and sees that there isn’t any outside) um, we had a whole bunch but a lady came by and bought it all. um, let me check though. (wanders off)

me: (figuring that someone from the event stopped by and bought them out, can’t blame them.)

clerk: (while waiting for a reply from his boss on the status of wood) um… you’re with the play, right?

me: (thinking on my feet) uh, yeah… (side note, to help easy the brains of locals, sca-dians will often tell people that they are thespians from a local play/troop, and are getting supplies/food/afterparty stuffs)

manager: sorry, all out.

clerk: (looking a little relieved at my answer) uh, we’re out, sorry

me: ok, thanks anyway.

so i head out form the shop to the hannaford plaza to see if the liquor shop is still open. sadly they weren’t. on my way back to site though, while pulling up to the light leading out of the parking lot, i see a sign.

This Weekend Eastgreenbush High School Presents: Peter Pan

i almost died laughing at the light. timing is Everything!

The process to remove these infected files involves installing their anti-virus/system software. To get the installer, click anywhere, really. Even doing Ignore then cancel/ok will download the AV2009Install.exe.

I am both sickened and amused by this. amused at the attempts to dupe people into adding their systems to some bot-net. Sickened because it actually works because the people at large don’t know any better.
